Bobby Boswell (BobbyBoswell.com)
Wow, I ruffled some feathers didn’t I?! Let’s get some things straight. First about Wynalda and the rest of the ESPN crew. I like Eric. He has always been good to me and nice to my family (then again, he is a Boswell – Eric Boswell Wynalda). I think ESPN could use a guy like Eric to explain the intricacies of the game to the other commentators, anchors and reporters – who have no idea how to call a soccer game or highlight.
Example: On SportsCenter on Friday they said Beck Ham’s freekick got deflected. This is where they could use some help. Becks CROSSED the ball and it was HEADED over the crossbar. He did not SHOOT it. Just simple stuff like that can be explained. If the announcers and anchors don’t understand what is going on, how are people who are watching the game for the first time supposed to get it?
That is my whole point about the SportsCenter highlights. I realize that had Beck Ham not been there, the game never would have made the highlights. But it did, so show the game. I am glad Beck Ham is here. He deserves the money that he is making. There was a packed house on Thursday and I feel the crowd got their money’s worth. Everyone got to see how happy Luciano is when he scores. Now imagine him doing that in practice when he scores on a reserve team goalie, because he reacts pretty much the exact same way. He loves to put the ball in the back of the net.
Ok. I think I am going to go organize a cage match between Wynalda and Jim Rome now (don’t worry; it won’t be a $50 event). Even if you don’t like Eric, you have to admit it would be fun to watch him “Zidane” Rome.
In other news, Jeff Carroll’s stock has gone through the roof since his recent video on my site. Expect more from him soon.

I’m not much of a fan of Wynalda, but I’d support him in any vendetta against Jim Rome.

First of all, I agree with this post 100%.
Secondly, (and most of all) Luciano Emilio is so much fun to watch. I mean, he’s the leading scorer in MLS and he reacts to each of his goals in a way that makes it seem as if it’s his first goal in a professional match. Really exciting to watch.
Third, I would support the ass-kicking of Jim Rome by anyone. And I would DEFINITELY pay 50 bucks to watch THAT.

Good point Bobby, Wynalda gets kudos for that whole Jim Rome thing. I remember that! - lol- that was great. It really does show he is in the right camp, maybe he can do something to get those jokers at BSPN to get it right. In ‘it’ I mean of course, actually call the game, maybe even get the highlights to actually show what happened in the game !

The guys at World Soccer Daily felt like Wynalda was being muzzled a bit by his handlers at ESPN. For example, he wanted to come right out and say that LA Galaxy played horribly, but I guess ESPN wants LA to look like the be-all-end-all of MLS teams now that they have Beckham and they want to televise all LA games.

I like Eric a lot. I’ve known him for years, and he’s got one of the best personalities in the game. Sometimes on TV he comes off as arrogant, and he is to some extent, but the guy’s a showman most of all, and he’s good for the game. Bobby — you are right on that he could educate some people who don’t know what they’re talking about. The only better color commentator in American soccer … Julie Foudy.
